On February 23rd I offered a lecture on the topic of ethics in eating disorders care and 406 people signed up. A rich dialog ensued, mostly focused on ethics related to care for life-threatened clients. There was so much to talk about I barely made it through a quarter of my outline. Many participants requested a more in-depth workshop that includes:
- The impact of oppression and privilege on embodiment.
- Trauma informed treatment as a model for a social justice-oriented treatment approach.
- Personal bias and diversity in clinical care.
- The ethics related to care for life-threatened clients.
- How to cope with the dearth of social ethics in public discourse these days.
After this presentation, participants will be able to:
- List three of the ethical dilemmas that arise when caring for people with eating disorders.
- Discuss their own enduring values that inform their ethical decisions.
- Describe the elements of a trauma informed approach to address the impact of social violence on embodiment.
