Big Hearted Embodiment Training
I offer three modules that make up my Big-Hearted Embodiment Intensive Clinical Training. You are welcome to take one or all of these modules, depending on your interest, and can take them in any order.
Free, Monthly Drop-in Office Hours
When you sign up for your first training or purchase a Module Two Guidebook, you can attend my free, monthly, Big Hearted Embodiment Office Hours so that I can answer questions about what you are learning and help you to find practical applications of the ideas to your clinical practice.
Join the Big-Hearted Embodiment Collaborative
Once you begin the Big Hearted-Embodiment training by signing up for your first module you become eligible to join the Big-Hearted Embodiment Collaborative. This Collaborative is a group of supportive, committed therapists, registered dietitians and wellness coaches who receive monthly advanced training and case conferencing. We collaborate to expand social justice in the eating disorders treatment field; develop ourselves as skillful and compassionate providers and support each other’s professional success. Each month’s meeting is an intimate and rich sharing that builds our resilience and joy with the work that we do. If you are interested in joining the Collaborative, please reach out to schedule an individual consultation with me in which I will orient you to the collaborative and learn about the professional goals and aspirations you bring to the team so that I can support your efforts. Big-Hearted Embodiment Training Modules:
Module One –
Positive Embodiment: Applying Niva Piran’s Developmental Theory of Embodiment to Clinical Treatment:
Through lectures and experiential activities, participants are introduced to Niva Piran’s brilliant Developmental Theory of Embodiment. We learn the social risk factors Piran’s research identified that lead to the development of disrupted embodiment. We explore the protective factors that can be implemented in clinical practice to support the client’s positive embodiment and resilience against eating disorders and other forms of disrupted embodiment such as substance use disorder and self-harm. We engage in dialogue and action to understand how the violence inherent in social inequality becomes internalized in the body and how Piran’s social justice informed approach can be integrated into treatment and community leadership development.
Four Continuing Education Units are currently pending.
Module One is now available as an online self-study training.
Each module can be taken in any order

Here is what people are saying about how Module One Positive Embodiment, Applying Niva Piran’s Developmental Theory of Embodiment to Clinical Treatment impacted their work:
“I have felt even more connected to my clients, seeing and hearing them even better, more centered in sessions and with my own body. The training has opened up new pathways in my journey of better understanding my privilege, racism, and how I can be a better therapist with this knowledge and awareness.”—Abby Bramnick, LCAT, ATR-BC, MA
“I very much enjoyed the Big-Hearted Embodiment training. I noticed I immediately began to slow down in my client sessions and pay particular attention to subtle ways I may encourage or disrupt my client’s autonomy development. I found myself pathologizing client’s less as I immersed in a socio-cultural vantage point. Working with Elizabeth in individual consultation, plus the training, and the upcoming monthly consultation group has offered me a stronger sense of community and sense of professional belonging.”
—Katy Lackey, LCSW
